Quick diagnosis
How to test a keyboard accurately
Start by pressing each key once. A key that stays unmarked may be failing, remapped, reserved by the operating system or blocked by a browser shortcut. Compare the physical label with the code shown in the event panel.
Check rollover and ghosting
Hold common combinations used in games or shortcuts. The maximum rollover card shows the largest number of simultaneous key events detected. If a particular combination drops a key, test a different combination before concluding that the hardware is faulty.
Understand dead keys
Some keyboard layouts intentionally use dead keys to compose accents. A dead-key event is not automatically a broken key. Switch to your usual operating-system layout and test again if the result is unexpected.

How do I test whether a keyboard key works?+
Press the physical key while this page is open. A registered key turns green and remains marked after release. The event panel also shows the key value and physical code reported by the browser.
What is keyboard rollover?+
Rollover describes how many keys a keyboard can report at the same time. Hold several keys together and SquidType records the largest simultaneous combination that reaches the browser.
Can a browser detect every dead key?+
The tester flags browser events whose key value is Dead. Some hardware faults and operating-system shortcuts never reach a webpage, so this is a useful first check rather than a complete electrical diagnosis.
