This English typing test measures standardized words per minute, character accuracy and keystroke rhythm. A 60-second result is useful for a quick baseline; longer tests better reflect the pace you can sustain.

Why use a dedicated English typing test?
Typing speed changes with language, punctuation and familiarity. An English prompt built from common words gives you a cleaner baseline than switching between unrelated scripts or copying code. Keep the language, duration and keyboard layout consistent when you compare sessions.

Read WPM and accuracy together
Words per minute is useful only when the text is accurate. SquidType follows the common five-character convention: every five correct characters count as one standardized word. A result of 60 WPM at 98% accuracy usually represents more usable output than a faster score with frequent corrections.
Fair comparison: repeat the same English test duration on the same keyboard. A 15-second personal best should not be compared directly with a ten-minute result.
