About SquidType

Typing practice should teach, not distract.

SquidType is an independent typing practice project built around privacy, clear measurement and useful next steps.

Why SquidType exists

Typing tools are excellent at producing scores, themes and leaderboards. Those features can be motivating, but they do not always answer the practical question after a test: what should I practice next? SquidType focuses on that moment. It observes errors and rhythm locally, explains the strongest signal in plain language and creates one small drill.

The interface and editorial content are written in English, while the typing engine supports English, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian prompts. Language names stay visible in English so visitors can switch without changing the site interface.

Product principles

Quiet by default

The typing area contains only the controls needed for the current session. Advertising, educational content and legal information live outside the active test so they do not compete with your attention.

Private by design

Recent results are stored on your device. SquidType does not require an account to provide coaching and does not need to receive the words you type.

Explain the score

The Insights page documents how every displayed metric is calculated and where its interpretation stops. A useful tool should be understandable without reverse engineering.

Independent product

SquidType is not affiliated with Monkeytype, Google, Cloudflare or any keyboard manufacturer. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. SquidType’s design, training content and coaching approach are original.

Questions and corrections

Clear feedback makes the tool better. If you find a calculation issue, accessibility barrier, inaccurate lesson or privacy concern, use the contact page and include the browser and device you were using when relevant.
